beginner classes

We are pleased to announce that the Qualicum Spinners and Weavers' Guild is organizing a very special opportunity for beginning and potential weavers with Elaine Duncan. Elaine's gently supportive yet detailed teaching has hooked many weavers into a lifelong pursuit of interlacements!


Elaine will be offering an informative and exciting 4-day workshop.

Beginning Weaving Workshop


Who: beginning weavers, those who need refreshing in basics.

Purpose: Students will learn the basics of weaving on a four harness table loom.



Specifically, students will:
* identify the parts of the loom,
* learn about kinds of looms
* weave a sampler to take home
* learn how to make a warp,
* learn how to calculate a warp for your looms,
* learn how to warp a loom.
* plan another project for people who choose to.



Dates: Tuesday, May 10, Wednesday, May 11th, 2011
Tuesday, May 17th, Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Times: all day- 9:30 am -3:30 pm.



Location: Qualicum Train Station, loft.



Cost: If only 6 students, $220 each, if 8, $170 each. Maximum 8; Minimum 6.
QSWG members, $200 each if 6, if 8, $150.


To register, please send a cheque payable to the QWSG for $220 (or $200 if a QWSG member) to the address below, by April 26th. If the workshop proceeds, and you must cancel, you are responsible for either paying the amount or finding someone who will take your place. If 8 people fill the workshop, we'll refund you the difference. We look forward to seeing you.



Procedure: Open to Guild members only until April Monday, April 5th, 2001; then open to all until April 26th.
N.B. The class will be cancelled if we do not have at least 6 participants by April 26, 2011.
Questions: How can I get a loom?
Answer: Contact Elaine Duncan has some, the Bradley Centre has others, and perhaps members of the guild could lend one.
